Fishing at Dôl Haidd Isaf

Fisherman present catch at self catering accommodation

The River Teifi is one of the major game rivers of Wales, generally fast flowing and subject to rapid rise and fall after heavy rain.

Dôl-Haidd Isaf has three quarters of a mile of excellent private fishing, mainly single bank with some double bank. The water is varied with deep pools, fast runs and quiet glides giving fine fishing for all techniques in most conditions.

The varied waters offer the opportunity to fish with worm, spinner and fly and much of the stretch can be waded in low water.

Spring runs are not heavy although fish up to 18lb have been taken. Large sea trout run early in April and May followed by the school sea trout in June with July and August being the best months, especially on the fly. Good catches of brown trout can be made on any day of the season.

Rod and fish

The autumn rain in September and October brings good runs of salmon with the record fish caught at Dôl-Haidd Isaf being 24lb.

This stretch of the River Teifi also provides wading in the shallows enabling easy fly casting to the deeper pools and fast flowing runs. This is ideal for the novice fly fisherman so that he has the space to improve his casting to perfection without getting snagged too often.

One of our visiting anglers Stewart Pope pictured on the left show his pleasure by displaying the 8 lb fresh salmon that he lured onto his spinner at Dôl-Haidd Isaf.

Salmon and sea trout like these, run from the estuary on the tide and many are taken fresh with the sea lice still attached.

Up to two rods per cottage can be reserved if they are requested when booking. Please note that the number of rods is the same as the number of people fishing; it is illegal to use more than one rod at a time.

The Environment Agency requires all anglers to buy a rod licence. These are not included in the price of the permit to fish at Dôl-Haidd Isaf. Licences can be purchased at any Post Office in England or Wales
